Mastering Rifle Mechanics is an instructor-level diagnostics class designed to fix shooter-induced errors limiting growth. Every part of shooting a defensive carbine is broken down, analyzed, and perfected until a high level of proficiency is achieved and rifle operation and accuracy come naturally. This 1-day, high round count class uses an approach that goes beyond simply teaching “better techniques.”

We take a process-based approach to shooting, and by explaining the principles behind marksmanship techniques, students will not only fix their marksmanship errors, they will learn how to diagnose and correct errors that arise in the future. Thus, instructors greatly benefit from taking this class.

Have you been unable to improve your skills with your defensive rifle and lag behind your peers? Do you freeze or get confused when a malfunction happens? Do you see inconsistent accuracy or struggle with smaller targets? Does your general rifle shooting just feel slow? Left uncorrected, the small errors causing these issues can become “bad habits,” leading to years of frustration on the range and potentially tragic results in a self-defense situation.

Our objective is not only to make you a better shooter in these 8-hours on the range, we want to provide you with knowledge and tools you need to coach yourself in the future. The key to becoming a great shooter is not learning how to perfect the “best” technique, it is learning how to evaluate your own performance, and train yourself so that your goals can be accomplished.

Areas covered during this class:

  • Why effective firearms training follows principles over techniques
  • Principles of shooting: stability, mobility, awareness, efficiency, and consistency
  • Principles of marksmanship and shooting techniques – understanding the “why” so you can better learn the “how”
  • How to evaluate techniques based on principles, to determine what technique works best for you
  • Operating the rifle in the most efficient manner possible and weeding out sloppy technique
  • Objectives and principles of why your grip/rifle mounting and handling is important
  • What is important (and not important) about trigger control
  • Understanding and applying the various sight confirmation levels
  • How to consistently come up on target (always see your sights or reticle)
  • Speed & accuracy – how to train yourself to shoot faster without sacrificing accuracy
  • Using speed to induce shooting errors
  • “Backfilling” technique (how to correct errors without slowing down)
  • Incorporating shot timers and usable metrics into your training
  • Dry-fire and live-fire exercises shooters can use to correct their errors and improve their consistency in the future.

Prerequisites:

  • Intermediate-level rifle class or equivalent experience
  • Open mind
  • Must be lawful for you to possess a firearm in the United States
