The Intermediate Defensive Rifle training class is a one day course developed for novice and experienced shooters. It dives deeper into the defensive shooting mindset by enhancing basic skills and introducing new techniques and stress. Students should be comfortable operating their rifle and handgun and have a good grasp on marksmanship and safe handling. This is a good class for shooters who have taken classes before and want a low stress brush-up of critical skills.

This class builds on the skills learned in the introductory class by doing more, faster. After a brief refresher, the class progresses into more advanced weapons manipulation and shooting. Students will dive deeper into positional shooting and using cover/concealment, engaging multiple targets, basic movement, and operating near others. Sling technique and handgun transitions are also introduced.

Areas covered during this class:

• Safety reinforcement - handling, range, storage, operational
• Review of violence of action and post-shooting issues
• Building upon the fundamentals: grip, stance, sight picture, sight alignment, trigger control, follow-through, natural point of aim
• Enhancing the proper shooting presentation
• Additional malfunctions and corrective actions
• Reloading effectively
• Dryfire training techniques
• Enhancing skills to shoot accurately, including quickly and with multiple rounds
• Positional shooting and moving with weapon system deployed
• Understanding cover and concealment and how to use both
• When and how to switch to a sidearm effectively

Prerequisites:

• Introductory-level carbine class
• Open mind
  
• Must be lawful for you to possess a firearm in the United States
